LEARN – Alan Turing Took The Hormones.
So, this is doing the rounds of social media and is not true. He took the hormones, he had no choice. Cool man. Sad end. but the truth must be told.
In January 1952, Turing met a man called Arnold Murray outside a cinema in Manchester. After a lunch date, Turing invited Murray to spend the weekend with him at his house, an invitation which Murray accepted although he did not show up. The pair met again in Manchester the following Monday, when Murray agreed to accompany Turing to the latter’s house. A few weeks later Murray visited Turing’s house again, and apparently spent the night there.
After Murray helped an accomplice to break into his house, Turing reported the crime to the police. During the investigation, Turing acknowledged a sexual relationship with Murray. Homosexual acts were illegal in the United Kingdom at that time, and so both were charged with gross indecency under Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885.
Turing was given a choice between imprisonment or probation conditional on his agreement to undergo hormonal treatment designed to reduce libido. He accepted chemical castration via injections of stilboestrol, a synthetic oestrogen hormone.
Turing’s conviction led to the removal of his security clearance, and barred him from continuing with his cryptographic consultancy for the Government Communications Headquarters , the British signals intelligence agency that had evolved from GCCS in 1946. At the time, there was acute public anxiety about spies and homosexual entrapment by Soviet agents, because of the recent exposure of the first two members of the Cambridge Five, Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean, as KGB double agents. Turing was never accused of espionage but, as with all who had worked at Bletchley Park, was prevented from discussing his war work.
From a friend……
So he really had a heart of gold that man. Not only was he a towering genius – he was a real gentleman.
They are still arguing as to whether his death was suicide or not. We’ve heard [at the centenary conference in King's College] that he had bought only the day before a couple of new socks, and he had a ticket in his pocket for the theatre. His suicide must have been a moment of momentary panic, or chaos, or ‘can’t stand it any longer’. I think he simply collapsed.
Because at the time he was suffering from being forced to have injections of female sex hormones to prevent his homosexuality. He’d been convicted for gross indecency. So my view is that it was a suicide, but on a momentary impulse.
He contributed so many things, but his single greatest achievement was the stored programme computer, which we all take for granted now.
‘Herald On Sunday’ And ‘Spy’ Now Loves Sally Ridge
My Gods, the ‘Herald on Sunday’ is bi-polar. For the last several years whilst self loather Rachel Glacouma has been doing ‘Spy’, their cheap and always nasty gossip insert, they would have had us believe sally ridge was a shit mother with a huge sexual appetite and no morals and a shit life. Every piece written on the lady was nasty and full of innuendo and cruelty. Now that the cutter has been moved to write about politicians for the weekday Herald, which just shows how disgusting Granny herald has become it allows that creature to write about politics like she has a clue, suddenly ‘Spy’ seems to love Sally. They had a story about how Kiwis are chomping at the bit to watch her show. It seems strange as their view for the last decade has been that Sally is a disgusting cunt. Seems strange now they are singing her praises and are convinced the country want her show. Here are the best bits of mindreading from whatever hack ‘writes’ for them now……
Don’t even try to act like you’re not interested in the Ridges.
One online story on Sally and Jaime Ridge’s proposed reality show attracted a staggering 600 comments, irrefutable proof that people do care – one way or the other.
My guess is that the show will go ahead. Reality TV is a ratings winner, and Sally and Jaime are lightning rods for everything that we love/hate about contemporary celebrity culture.
My advice to TV3 is to strike while the iron is hot. Green means go!
I know tabloids are rather new in New Zealand, but could the editors and writers for the ‘H.O.S.’ remember that when you hate someone, and especially when you pour such vitriol and hate on her for years, the ‘Road to Damascus’ change does not work nor is believable.
The Cult Of Scientology Spied On Matt Stone And Trey Parker.
THIS IS NOT A CHURCH. THEY SHOULD PAY TAX. NOW. FROM THE HUFF POST……
Marty Rathbun, a former Church of Scientology executive-turned-critic and independent worshipper, revealed to the Village Voice a number of documents that detailed the religious sect’s detailed surveillance of the Emmy-winning TV moguls. Through the help of informants, public records and various other means, they searched for “vulnerabilities” in the pair’s personal lives, and after exploring their personal and business connections, widened their focus to investigating actors such as John Stamos, as well.
“Phone records. Bank records. Personal letters that expose some kind of vulnerability,” Rathbun told the Voice. “They’ll read stuff into the kind of alcohol you’re drinking and how much. Prescriptions. They’ll figure out your diet. They can find out a lot about you through your trash.”
Rathbun’s personal site leads with a post that includes more information, including this summary: “In ’06 the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, became targets of Corporate Scientology’s OSA. Operations were run in an attempt to silence Parker and Stone. While Corporate Scientology was ultimately unsuccessful, left behind an instructive data trail during their efforts.”
Rathbun teased more documents, which reveal major advances in their investigations, would come soon. He was arrested in September, allegedly at the behest of the Church of Scientology, though charges were later dropped; the Voice reported then that the Church of Scientology was harassing him, in part because he practices the faith outside of the official Church.
