Syracuse University has placed longtime assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine on administrative leave “in light of the new allegations and the Syracuse City Police investigation.”
ESPN is reporting that police are investigating Fine on allegations of child molestation.
The investigation comes nearly two weeks after Penn State was devastated by a child sex-abuse case in which former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky is accused of sexual abuse involving eight boys over 15 years.
Sgt. Tom Connellan tells the Syracuse Post-Standard that police received information on the case Thursday and “are in the early stages of an investigation.”
ESPN first reported the allegations, saying Fine is accused of molesting a former Syracuse ball boy, who is now 39. The alleged victim told ESPN the abuse occurred at Fine’s home, at Syracuse basketball facilities and on team road trips, including the 1987 Final Four.
Fine is in his 35th season as an assistant to Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim. After a reporter knocked on the doors of the homes of Fine and Boeheim, he was told neither was home.
Witnesses said the All Black winger suddenly appeared dripping wet and without clothes in Trader Jacks, a popular bar and restaurant, about 10pm on Friday (NZ time).
He was bleeding from a gash to his forehead and wounds on his chest and knees, thought to have happened when he fell off a scooter earlier in the day.
Guildford, 22, first punched one man in the bar who asked him if he needed help. The All Black then staggered to the bar and hit Australian Nick Cox across the back of the head.
SOUNDS LIKE A TYPICAL 22 YEAR OLD. AND A TYPICAL KIWI MALE. I FOUND HIS RECENT ‘SHAMING ON TV FOR GOING OUT AND GETTING PISSED AFTER A GAME’ REALLY FOUL. OH BOO FUCKING HOO HE GOT TOASTED AFTER CARRYING THE ALL BLACKS TO VICTORY. NORMAL MAN.
LEAVE MY ZAC ALONE. AND ZAC AND FRIENDS, KEEP THE NONG UNDER CONTROL. AND ZAC SMOKE DOPE DUDE. FAR BETTER FOR YOU.
David Testo, former MLS player with the Columbus Crew, has told the CBC that he is gay. He is the first former MLS player to do so. And his former Canadian team, the Montreal Impact, say they knew he was gay when they signed him. Part of Testo’s interview, translated from a French report:
I’m gay, I’m gay. I did not choose. It’s just part of who I am. And it has nothing to do with the talent of a soccer player. You can be both an excellent soccer player and being gay. …
I really regret not having said publicly earlier. I fought with it all my life, my whole career. Living the life of a professional athlete and being gay is incredibly difficult. It is like wearing a secret in his bags but never yourself. It saps all your energy to you, in addition to having to perform, having to play.
The annual Dieux Du Stade calendar is about to arrive, and this year is the 10th anniversary edition!
This year’s cover boy is French rugby player Sébastien Torresin. Photographed by Francois Rousseau, which is his 3rd collaboration with Dieux Du Stade, the theme for 2012 tells the story of “survivors of a lost world, trying to get on board a ship’.
