Sir Paul McCartney has given up smoking cannabis for his youngest daughter.

The Beatles legend was inspired to finally quit the drug while raising eight-year-old Beatrice – his daughter with ex-wife Heather Mills.

McCartney was reportedly introduced to cannabis by Bob Dylan during the 60s, but revealed the arrival of Beatrice has made him re-evaluate his life.

“I did a lot, and it was enough,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. “I smoked my share. When you’re bringing up a youngster, your sense of responsibility does kick in, if you’re lucky, at some point.

“Enough’s enough – you just don’t seem to think it’s necessary.”

The 69-year-old musician is believed to have experimented with a host of other substances including heroin, cocaine and LSD – but has always insisted his drug use wasn’t excessive.

McCartney has now cleaned up his act and is happily settled with his third wife Nancy Shevell, who he married in October last year
