Shortly after the February 29 show, fellow broadcaster Nathan Rarere posted online: “Murray Deaker stated last night that one of the reasons he doesn’t like Sonny Bill is … ‘He is a Muslim, in a so-called Christian country, and that makes me uncomfortable’.”
League fans took to an online forum with similar comments, one writing: “Deaker is obliterating Sonny Bill … Deaker said ‘I don’t like that he’s Muslim in a so-called Christian country’.”
Deaker refused to elaborate when contacted by the Sunday Star-Times.

So, TV3/C4/FOUR are doing what TVNZ fucked up so badly. Getting people to get Freeview’ to watch a good channel, C4. TVNZ had a chance to do this with their ‘Heartland’ channel. That should have been on FW. But instead the dumb fucks gave the channel to SKYTV, so TV shows tax payers paid for over the years have to be paid to be seen.

What is happening?
Early next year (2011) C4 is moving to Channel 9 on Freeview.
In its place a new channel FOUR is starting up.
So after the change: FOUR will be where C4 is on your TV now and C4 will be found on Channel 9 on Freeview.
What is FOUR?
FOUR is a mainstream entertainment channel launching in NZ in 2011.
There will be plenty of new content including shows for Family and for Kids and for everyone else too. It’s a much broader offering, and it’s not a music channel any more.
Why is this happening?
We thought it was time NZ was given a broad, entertaining channel, free from news, sport and other serious stuff. FOUR is born to entertain.
What is happening to C4?
C4 is going back to its roots as a straight up music channel. You’ll be able to enjoy C4 24 hours a day on Freeview Channel 9.
What about my favourite shows?
A lot of the shows you already saw on C4 will now play on FOUR.
Favourites such as South Park, American Dad, Family Guy, Skins, Misfits, 30 Rocks, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Malcolm in the Middle etc will play on FOUR.
New shows like: America’s Next Top Model, The Simpsons, Community, Top Chef Desserts and All New Family Guy will also play on FOUR.
Music shows like Video Hits, Homegrown and Biggest Records Right will continue to play on C4 on Freeview.
Drew and Shannon will be on FOUR in a brand new show, and this show will also be repeated on C4 on Freeview.
What about C42?
C4 will be replacing C42 on Freeview so C42 will no longer be on air.
Will I only be able to get C4 if I have Freeview?
Yes you will need Freeview to get C4 from early 2011 (the change-over date will be announced shortly).
Will there be music on FOUR?
There will be bits here and there, particularly on Drew and Shannon’s new show (more details to come on this) but it will not be a music channel anymore.
When is all this happening?
In early 2011 – we will let you know the exact change-over date very soon.

Why Does TVNZ Happily Give It’s Content Free To Competitor SKYTV But Not To The People Of New Zealand?

The whole rhyme and reason for ‘Freeview’ is to get people off analogue broadcasting, (which will cease in NZ in 2013 I think), and get everyone to start recieving their TV signal off the digital platform. So ‘Freeview’ has to be as sexy as possible to convince people to get it. The U.K. do this really well with a truck load of channels to choose from on the ‘Freeview’ platform. TVNZ recently launched ‘Heartland’ on the Sky platform but NOT on ‘Freeview’, so instead of the whole country getting the chance to see many shows from it’s archive, you have to PAY to get SKYTV to see many shows that we paid for.
But, according to this article from the Granny Herald, TVNZ are trying to make the brilliant, non-money making site NZ on Screen pay for access to our library of TV shows. We paid for these shows for years through our Broadcasting Fee, so for the assholes who run TVNZ to expect one of the best historical websites in NZ pay, while giving the content FREE TO A COMPETITOR, just really pisses me right off.
The sooner someone with some knowledge of what is happening in broadcasting is in charge at The DeathStar, well, to late to save it, but at least they may make sensible decisions.
UPDATE: FROM NZ ON SCREEN
- The TVNZ Amendment Bill is seeking to establish a fund as part of its proposal to free up the archives. The fund would be for reimbursing copyright claimants – there’s a whole other discussion to be had around that, however our submission stated that we felt NZ On Screen should not have to pay into this fund if it gets set up. This because we are already publicly funded, we aren’t set up to pay money into such a fund, and we already ask nicely for permission to put material onto NZ On Screen.
The other part of our submission was to stress that we felt that NZ On Screen should have equal rights with TVNZ to screen the content once it is cleared – rather than have to enter into negotiations with them for it as the proposed Bill currently states.
However, this is all part of the submission process at the moment. TVNZ isn’t trying to make us pay – we pay to get titles digitised from them as we do for anyone who supplies us.
But they still give free content to a payTV rival, and not to us.
