The Lovely NZ Rock Pioneer Dave McArtney Has Died.

I first met Dave around 1998 when I was working at the Shakespeare and he was teaching English round the corner. I always loved his music, both with ‘Hello Sailor’ and his solo work so was totally in ‘heaven’. He was very much bemused and we hit it off well until he realized I found him smoking hot and wanted to root. Once we had sorted that shit out, we just always got on so well. He was a lovely, thoughtful man. And we always ran into each other lots after that with the huge return to the public eye for ‘Sailor’ after the turn of the century.

Old School Friend Graham Watson Has Died.

http://blairmulholland.wordpress.com/2012/08/08/tribute-to-graham-peter-jules-watson/

LOVELY TRIBUTE HERE.

Oh, boooo. Went to Dilworth with Graham. He had a very sharp and twisted and funny mind. And was stunning. He was older and I was in the same year as his brother Nigel. He stirred so much at school, mainly for more rights for boys. he helped get us into mufti after school. He also had an affair with the Principals daughter. Well, either he or Nigel did.

His involvement with student politcs in Auckland was hysterical. When i ran into him around this time he was so delighted to see me and we had many a fun time. He still had a great mind. This is very sad news.

READ – William Orbit ‘Discusses’ Madonna And MDNA – Original ‘Ray Of Light’ Rocks.

GREAT STUFF ON WHY ‘MDNA’ FELT RUSHED AND UNDER PRODUCED……

Producer William Orbit, who worked with everybody in the 80′s (Cocteau Twins! Sting!) and co-created the Ray of Light album with Madge, posted an audio recording of his original, guitar-centric cut of that album’s title track to YouTube last week. A discussion of Madonna broke out on Orbit’s Facebook page, with one fan noting that the promotional strategy for Madonna’s new record, MDMA, seemed strangely … nonexistent.

Orbit then posted this long, illuminating, and rather sad statement:

I appreciate your analysis of the album release ‘strategy’ @Madonna Express Yourself. I wasn’t involved in its formulation in any way myself. All I will say is that certain thoughts about it that I see expressed online by committed fans such as yourself, were blindingly obvious to me from the very get go, well before the release. But I’m no Jimmy Iovine, with the ability to advocate my convictions forcefully, and as co-producer, co-writer etc am aware that it is not in my ‘job spec’.

But you won’t see me exactly jumping up and down with delight over the way that things have panned out. We were very pushed for time, due to a rather interesting and shall we just say, ‘traditional’ method of recording that the esteemed engineer Demo was partial to, and various pressing commitments that took up the artists limited time, such as perfume ranges and teen fashion contests and other such endeavours which are beyond my own limited understanding of pop star agendas.

60 Year Sentence For Catholic Priest Who Hired A Hit Man To Kill The Boy He Raped.

statesman.com

What a foul, evil religion catholicism is.

Four years ago in western Texas, Catholic priest John Fiala initiated a non-consensual sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy. Fiala would drive the boy to his girlfriend’s house and the pair would stop at a motel along the route, where the priest force himself upon his passenger. On other occasions, Fiala assaulted the boy in his car and in the rectory of his church. At one point, he made the boy perform sex acts at gunpoint.

From the Dallas News:

[The boy] never told his family about the attacks because he was so scared.
“I felt like I was saving their lives,” the accuser, now 20, testified this morning in a Dallas County courtroom.

After numerous rapes and assaults, Fiala attempted to hire a Dallas hit man to kill his victim. The attempt failed, and the boy lived to testify against the ex-priest, who’s now 53.

On Thursday, Fiala was convicted in a Dallas County courtroom of trying to hire the hit man. (Fiala still faces sex assault charges in Edwards County.) On Friday, Fiala was sentenced to 60 years in prison. He’ll be eligible for parole in 2027.

From the Dallas News:

In closing arguments, prosecutors asked for a life sentence for ex-priest John Fiala. Defense attorney Rex Gunter said anything more than 15 years would be a “travesty.”
