RIGHT, ACTORS SHOULD NOT TALK. BUT I FORGIVE GIBSON FOR BEING A DRUNK WOMAN HATING JEW HATER. YA GOTTA HAVE A HOBBY.
Last night at the 25th Annual American Cinematheque Award Ceremony, which was honoring Robert Downey Jr., the Iron Man actor asked Hollywood to forgive Mel Gibson.
Gibson spoke kindly of the star, who he famously helped to make a comeback by paying Downey Jr.’s insurance bond so he could star in 2003′s The Singing Detective.
“You are my friend,” Gibson said. “When I saw you all those years ago and got all those warnings, I just thought, ‘There’s nothing so much wrong with him.’” Gibson explained, “You’re a good dude with a good heart.”
During Downey Jr.’s acceptance speech, he had even kinder words for Gibson.
“I asked Mel to present this award for me for a reason,” he said. “When I couldn’t get sober, he told me not to give up hope and encouraged me to find my faith. It didn’t have to be his or anyone else’s as long as it was rooted in forgiveness. And I couldn’t get hired, so he cast me in the lead of a movie that was actually developed for him. He kept a roof over my head and food on the table and most importantly he said if I accepted responsibility for my wrongdoing and embraced that part of my soul that was ugly – hugging the cactus he calls it — he said that if I hugged the cactus long enough, I’d become a man.”
“I did and it worked. All he asked in return was that someday I help the next guy in some small way. It’s reasonable to assume at the time he didn’t imagine the next guy would be him or that someday was tonight. So anyway on this special occasion and in light of the recent holidays including Columbus Day, I would ask that you join me, unless you are completely without sin in which case you picked the wrong f—ing industry, in forgiving my friend his trespasses and offering him the same clean slate you have me, allowing him to continue his great and ongoing contribution to our collective art without shame. He’s hugged the cactus long enough.”
The crowd in the room applauded vigorously, as Gibson appeared to tear up a bit.
Once in a while a friend request will come along that will change your life forever.
Mel Gibson has at least one ally in the LGBT community: his adopted brother Andrew Gibson.
In an interview with the Sunday Times of Australia, Gibson, 43, says he doesn’t believe the taped conversations of his brother using abusive, homophobic and racist language are really him.
“When I heard them I just thought, ‘that isn’t Mel,’” Gibson said. “He has never said anything abusive, aggressive or racist in his life. I just had to turn the TV off and turn it to the wall for two weeks so I didn’t have to listen. The rest of the family did the same.”
Gibson also defended remarks his brother made during an interview in 1991, when the actor referred to not wanting to “take it up the arse.”
“He’s a straight man and he was illustrating that fact,” Gibson said. “In the same way a gay man wouldn’t want to have sex with a woman. He never meant to upset anyone. I have never once heard anything anti-gay come out of his mouth.”
After coming out, Gibson, who lives in Sydney, says he struggled with how Mel and his other family members perceived him.
“It was a struggle and it took a long time,” Gibson said. “Even after 10 years when I came back to the family for a while, I still didn’t feel it was right. It has only really been in the last 12 months that we have really built up contact again.”
Mel Gibson’s soon-to-be ex-wife Robyn could get half of his $1 billion fortune in their divorce settlement. Andrew says he is “incredibly sad” about the split.
What a self obsessed slut I am. Thank the Gods. Think this year for my b’day, shall post stuff that is still around me every day. Fuck, that makes no sense, how shit faced am I?????
Miss BSG everyday.
So glad Prince is all over Youtube now. He lost that battle.
WTF????? L.A. has very strange ideas about domestic violence. As in they just seem not to care, if you are famous or rich. Maybe Mel and Chris and the rest would be in trouble if they’d beaten a jew up??????????
Mel Gibson has struck an agreement with prosecutors and has made a plea deal in his looming criminal case … sources connected with the L.A. County District Attorney tell TMZ … and Mel will not get jail time. Our sources say Mel will appear in court Friday and will plead no contest to simple battery — a lesser charge than corporal injury on a spouse.
As we first reported, Mel had been agonizing over the impending criminal charge — related to the January 6, 2010 blowout with Oksana Grigorieva — worried that a prolonged court fight would be a strain on his family, particularly his children. We’re told … even though Mel believed he could win the case — he struck the deal to protect his loved ones.
We’re told the deal involves counseling but NO JAIL TIME.
When contacted for a response, Mel’s lawyer, Blair Berk, released the following statement to TMZ: “I know from almost 20 years as a criminal defense lawyer that sometimes justice can come for a client at too high a personal price. That is particularly so for Mel, whose right to due process can only be exercised in this case with an enormous media circus attached.”
Berk goes on, “Mel’s priority throughout all of this has been that the best interests of his young daughter Lucia and the rest of his children be put first in any decisions made. It is with only that in mind that he asked me to approach the District Attorney with a proposal that would bring all of this to an immediate end.”
