Fun. Love the time shift. Love the camera work, again. Seemed mainly a set up for next week, but fun. Would have loved a singalong a-la ‘L Word’ in the car. HEAR – Billie Holliday – ‘Strange Fruit’ – Ethel Waters – ‘Suppertime’.

When I saw ‘Wicked’ in Sydney I told the person sitting next to me, ‘Just so you know, I shall be singing and crying’. I did not sing, the voices were far too good to compete with. but, my Gods, how I cried. Such a very good show. You must attend. And if you have female children, you must take them. It shall change their lives.

We have thrillifying news! WICKED returns to the Australasian region later this year as part of it’s 10th Anniversary Year, playing in Auckland for the first time at The Civic Theatre from September 2013, and returning to its original Australian home at the Regent Theatre, Melbourne, from May 2014 for a strictly limited season, followed by an Australian tour.

Wow. After 2 episodes I have totally flipped for this show. The depiction of performers is real. The depiction of relationships is real. the teen characters are fantastic. The writing, of course, from Amy Sherman-Pallandino is just brilliant. funny, tart and witty. I was so worried the story would be hard to take forward…..

Michelle, a Las Vegas showgirl marries a man on a whim and moves to his sleepy coastal town where she winds up working alongside her new mother-in-law at her dance school.

That could have been a car crash, but the honest view of show business, like the anti ‘Smash’, give the show a real kick.

Better and wittier than anything in ‘Glee’.

REVEL – The Night Comedy Great Janey Godley Finally Met Comedy Great Billy Connolly.

facebook.com

The Night Billy Connolly came to see me do comedy

I never thought I would ever write those words down in a blog but here I am. Let me take you back a bit, when I was growing up in Glasgow in the 70s and my dad let me hear an LP vinyl recording of Glasgow comic Billy Connolly- I have been hooked and love the man ever since. His story telling style hooked me and made me really interested in comedy.

When I went into comedy at the age of 35, the first press reaction was “Janey Godley is like discovering an early Billy Connolly” I was touched but a tad embarrassed in case the great man ever read that and was annoyed, as if he ever read about me? What a dick I am.

Anyway I have followed his career and been totally in love with his style and always regarded him as the best comic I have ever known. So I land in Wellington New Zealand for the Comedy festival to learn that the Big Man is in town and was staying in the same hotel as me and Ashley.

READ THE REST HERE.
I adore this story from Janey. I also find it strange two such funny fucks, both from Scotland had never meet before. I suppose I thought Scotland was like the gay community and they all knew each other. Anyhoo, janey hits Auckland now at the Comedy Festival so go and see her. She is the bees knees in honest, funny as a fit comedy. True class.

JANEY AT A RECENT APPEARANCE IN BOSTON.
