Christchurch Water Restrictions In Place.

enews.fergananews.com

THEY HAVE KEPT THIS QUIET. THE PEOPLE OF CHRISTCHURCH CAN PRETEND THEY ARE ON A PACIFIC ISLAND….

Christchurch’s first water restrictions in 13 years will take effect on Saturday.

The Christchurch City Council has imposed the restrictions because of severe earthquake damage to water-supply systems.

They are expected to be in force until February.

Council water and waste manager Mark Christison said the council was “working hard to repair reservoirs, damaged wells and drill new wells, but we need Christchurch residents to limit their outdoor water use now”.

He warned that if residents did not adhere to the restrictions, “total outdoor watering bans will have to be imposed for the city”.

The restrictions are:

No-one waters outdoors on Mondays.

Residents with odd-numbered street addresses can water their gardens on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Residents with even-numbered street addresses can water their gardens on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Sprinklers, garden irrigation systems and unattended hoses are not permitted at any time.

Car washing is permitted on the allocated day.
