Phillips County native and rock ‘n’ roll legend Levon Helm “is in the final stages of his battle with cancer,” according to his wife Sandy and daughter Amy. “Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey,” they wrote.
“Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration… he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage… We appreciate all the love and support and concern,” they wrote.Helm had recently canceled several concert dates, including a headlining spot at Jazz Fest in New Orleans and several Midnight Rambles — the intimate shows he hosted over the years at his home studio in Woodstock, N.Y.

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is reportedly undergoing cancer treatment in a Singapore hospital, but members of his ruling party are denying he is sick.
The 88-year-old dictator went to Singapore on March 31, and was expected to return to Zimbabwe’s capital Harare on Wednesday (local time).
Aides to Mugabe said he was using the trip to oversee arrangements for his daughter to begin post-graduate study in Hong Kong, however the Zimbabwe Mail reported a senior official from Mugabe’s Zanu PF party said he was undergoing “intensive treatment” for cancer.
The official also said Mugabe’s family had also jetted to Singapore at the weekend to be by his side.

Karen admitted: ‘I have known for ages that I am leaving and it’s such a massive relief that it is out and I can speak freely about it,’ when asked how long she had known that she would be leaving the hit sci-fi show.
She continued: ‘I’m back next year for a few episodes but it’s not actually confirmed when I go.’
Asked if she knows how she will be written out and whether Amy Pond could die, she admitted: ‘I don’t know, it could be possible.’

Dr. Elaine James, who is unrelated to the singer and has been living with her since March 2010, is now asking James’ fans to pray for her.
“I am Southern and Christian and would just ask for the prayers of her fans and friends,” Elaine James said, according to the Press-Enterprise.
