News of the couple’s separation broke earlier in the day when Holmes’ attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, released a statement to People, saying, “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.” TMZ is reporting that Holmes is seeking full custody of the couple’s daughter, Suri, in her divorce filing.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry are getting a divorce.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends,” Brand, 36, said early today (NZ time).
He cited irreconcilable differences in papers filed today (NZ time) in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Brand’s announcement follows hot on the heels of the claims the couple had a big row over the Christmas holidays and spent Christmas Day apart after the fight. Brand spent the day with friends in the UK while Perry holidayed in Hawaii.

Musicians Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, married in 1984, are announcing they have separated. Sonic Youth, with both Kim and Thurston involved, will proceed with its South American tour dates in November. Plans beyond that tour are uncertain. The couple has requested respect for their personal privacy and does not wish to issue further comment.
Kim and Thurston have been married for 27 years ago and have one daughter, 17-year-old Coco Hayley Gordon Moore.
