BUT I LIKED THIS PIECE FROM ESPN MOST….

Gray has since suggested that such is the all-encompassing nature of the rugby culture in New Zealand, it may ‘not be a place a gay man would want to be.’ But what a statement it would be if a leading player from the world’s most famous team would follow the lead of former Wales and Lions star Gareth Thomas and admit they were gay – especially when so many other high profile sports continually fail to tackle the issue and as a result discourage sportsmen to come out.

Common sense suggests that many gay men have played international rugby and are currently doing so now. It is a shame that fear of reprisal, ridicule or even loss of commercial income would prevent them from coming out. They, like Thomas, may find support where they expected isolation. But you fear there is more chance of Wales hosting their World Cup clash with England than an All Black breaking cover.

WHAT A SWEET DREAM INDEED.

How Do The 13,000 Investors In Strategic Finance Who Lost $400 Million Feel About Jock Hobbs Dying?

Can someone ask them. Am very tired of all these platitutes being thrown at a man who threw a ball around for most of his life and then was really bad at business. These are new Zealand heroes? For REAL? The NZ media need to calm the fuck down just because a ball thrower dies. And they need to define what a ‘HERO’ is.

He was a director of finance firm Strategic Finance, which went into receivership in March 2010. The Financial Markets Authority is investigating Strategic Finance.

Options range from laying charges against those associated with Strategic – as with Hanover, South Canterbury Finance and others – or ceasing its involvement without taking any action.

For some months, the glamour funder, once headed by former All Black captain Jock Hobbs, has been on the authority’s list of finance company collapse investigations. Last year, the authority said its Strategic probe was continuing and the company appeared on a list of 14 which has now been reduced to 12 with ongoing investigations.

John Fisk and Colin McCloy of PricewaterhouseCoopers were appointed Strategic’s receivers in March 2010 after Perpetual Trust moved against the property financier.

The most recent PwC update reveals “considerable uncertainties relating to the recoverability of certain property loans which will have an impact on the final recoveries that we will be able to achieve for secured debenture investors”.

Two years ago, PwC pegged the Strategic disaster at $452 million, showing how about 10,000 secured debenture investors were owed $367.8 million, 950 subordinated note holders $21.8 million and 65 unsecured depositors $1.5 million but interest payable on stock, deposits and notes stood in early 2010 at $54.7 million and Strategic had other liabilities of $6.2 million.

Strategic’s mainly elderly, retired investors did not know before the business collapsed of extremely high-risk ventures which their money was poured into and PWC has forced some businesses under to get what it can from the mess.
