Well, I for some reason thought the Auckland gay Pride Parade was run by a board who had a say on how it is managed. But it appears I was totally wrong and decisions are only made by Jonathan Smith……..

The coordinator of the Auckland Pride Parade says the participation of a radio host who lost a bet was pre-planned, saying it was designed to help break down barriers. Pride Parade Coordinator Jonathan Smith says he was totally involved – he in fact came up with the idea as PR for the parade. He appeared on The Edge’s breakfast show last week and again this morning to discuss the parade and Harvey’s part in it. “Sometimes it is more effective to work with people in order for them to understand who we are as a community and what is right and what is wrong. Education is a very powerful tool and very effective with people who want to learn,” Smith says. “Dom is a very decent man and might have made mistakes in the past but is truly supportive of who we are and what I do.”

I have never heard an apology from The Edge or Dominic about his use of language. Nor, I gather from people who listen has there been any ceasation in his endless bullying of any group that is different. having the punishment for losing a bet being walking in a gay pride parade, anyway you try to spin that, it is offensive and hate enabling from jonathan Smith. I see no reason why Jonathan has made this choice, why he is so committed to a person who has only ever revealed himself to be a total ass. I know many people who would not agree that Dominic is a ‘decent man’. Shall we ask Jason Reeves, the former partner on breakfast if he thinks Dominic is a decent fellow. the reason why people do not get to have dictatorships is so incidents like this do not occur and reflect badly on the Auckland Gay Pride Parade. All I know about Jonathan Smith is he got paid handsomely to organise the ‘Queen of the Universe’ show. I do not know why he has complete control on the Parade. I do not know why ‘gay’ has been left out of the name. I do not know no no HIV/AIDS memorial float was allowed on the non-gay Parade this year. I do not know why the Parade started at 4pm. I do not know why he is seemingly making every decision and the Board have no say. i do know letting someone who endlessly belittles gay people march in the parade as a ‘victim’ shows bad judgement from Jonathan Smith.
