‘Zombieland’ should not work. It is incredibly post modern and just assumes that the viewer has seen zombie films, knows the rules, and is ready to see a full on piss take that is also really violent. Well, I love zombie films, and really had a blast. But I really believe this film works a truck load better on DVD, where you can just chill and enjoy its’ silly charms.
Jesse Eisenberg works well as the pseudo hero. His lessons in how to survive a zombie outbreak are bloody funny, and he has the right touch of ‘Michael Cera’ to appeal without being totally nerdy. Woody Harrelson has fun as the redneck, but Bill Murray really seems to enjoy taking the piss out of himself, playing a version of himself.
If you turn off your brain and love zombie films, this is stupid fun.
