Will ‘American Idol’ Producer Nigel Lythgoe’s Contract Be Renewed With His Decisions Killing The Show?

Well, he should be dumped. His antiquated views have kept the show in a crass, unrealistic bubble for too long, and as the show has less and less reflected the real world, so the ratings have tumbled…….

This season of American Idol has seen ratings fall 25% from last year, with the lowest-rated finale ever. The show’s ad revenue – currently between $468,100 (£300,517) and $502,900 (£322,858) per 30-second spot – is likely to drop as a result.

The show has started losing money. Cut from the top as obviously what they are doing is not working. And this is where decisions are made. To bring in Tyler to judge, not just for the fact he is as drug fucked as he is, but also he comes from Rock, and ‘Idol’ has never been a ‘rock’ show. He also turned to shit as a judge after 2 weeks.
But the problem now is, well, as with Lythgoe’s other show, ‘So You Think You can Dance’, an obvious bias comes out from the judges and better performers are sent home or do not win because the producers are thinking about life after the shows with tours and management contracts and recording deals and looking at who they think they can milk more for fast cash.

But I hate the way ‘Idol’ is so staunch in pushing wife and children in the contestant packages, and always squashing any gay visibility at all, except to mock during auditions. The way Adam Lambert was never allowed to be open about his sexuality on the show, whilst on sister channel ‘Fox News’, Lambert was getting eviscerated by professional asshole Bill O’Reilly for daring to be gay and how that kind could not win the contest. Awful hate was allowed and kissing pictures splashed on screen, while at the same time lambert was not allowed to even mention his sexuality on the show. classless times from Fox and Lythgoe.

The recent rumours that lambert may return to ‘Idol’ as a judge revealed once more Lythgoe’s strange feelings for the star….

Comparing him in that tacit way to Jerry Lewis and Charlie Sheen is just bizarre. Lambert is young,vibrant, amazingly real and the show needs to go young. Lambert is just what ‘Idol’ needs, and Lythgoe should be moving heaven and hell and shitting rainbows to make it happen.
The constant reliance on old people to judge, and the massive misfire of Ellen having her turn, an car crash waiting to happen from the start, show he has no idea what the state of pop culture is in the world now.

But mainly, the show desperately needs new blood in every way shape and form. It has been tired and disappointing for years now. To become appointment viewing again it needs a shake up that will change the show and make it unmissable again. The vision for ‘Idol’ for seasons now has been to rinse and repeat. it needs the reboot from hell and the 20th century Lythgoe is not the young, open fearless man to lead and head the show in the new age of TV. He has failed the show and if it is ever to regain the crown, new blood and a new vision is needed to lead it there.
