NEW ZEALANDERS – What Is The Difference Between The Marriage Act And The Civil Unions Act.

Two things. Civil Unions do not allow adoption and NZ do not recognize overseas civil unions. The adoption part of the legislation is now being looked at by a bi-partisan working group lead by Kevin hague and Nikki Kaye. Labour was going to address the overseas civil unions part but lost power.

I had presumed from the huge attention both gay and main stream media were giving to ‘gay marriage’ there must be a huge difference and the legislation was hugely dissimilar and unfair. This seems not to be the case.

Research in America has shown gay youth see and get no worth from gay marriage.

The teen suicide stats in NZ are chilling. This area needs to be addressed. Violence against gay people, especially the trans members is out of control. This area needs to be addressed.
The differences in these 2 pieces of legislation is of concern to nobody in the sense that it is an ‘issue’ facing gay people. Unless their is some secret gay agenda attacking the foul institution of marriage, I wonder why so much energy is being expended on the continuing heteronormalization of gay people? And how to stop it?
