Occupy protesters are being evicted from Aotea Square by Auckland Council this morning after weeks of protesting.

A police communications spokesman said they were there supporting the council as they removed the occupiers this morning.

Around 60 protesters from the anti-capitalist movement marched down Queen St yesterday to mark the 99th day of the protest.

Auckland Council had successfully sought a court order to evict the occupants before Christmas although some remained.

The council had planned to go back to court today to obtain the powers to remove those who remained.

If successful, occupiers faced 21 days in jail if the court approves warrants for their arrest.

One Auckland Council media representative said they did not have details about the eviction.
