OH GODS, THIS IS HORRIBLE. SENDING BIG LOVE TO RTD. AND GOOD LUCK FOR YOUR TREATMENT ANDREW SMITH.

Writer Russell T Davies – famed for bringing Doctor Who back to TV – has put his TV work on hold, following his partner’s diagnosis with brain cancer.

He and long-term boyfriend Andrew Smith have quit Los Angeles, where they were based, to return to their former home in Manchester.

Davies told PinkNews.co.uk that Smith is undergoing months of chemotherapy following surgery.

The scriptwriter had been working on a new series called Cucumber which was a collaboration between BBC Worldwide and a US network. His work has been put on ice indefinitely, but he said the TV companies had both been accommodating and sympathetic to his situation.

Davies said their lives in LA had “closed down overnight” following the diagnosis, which came after Smith complained of severe headaches.

“When we got the results they told us he had cancer of the brain,” he said.

“They needed to operate straightaway. Three days later he was having surgery.

“That’s where we are now. He’s had 30 consecutive days of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and we’ve got six months of chemotherapy ahead of us.”
