The city of Moscow has a history with Pride that can only be described as “shameful.”
After years of police harassment and anti-gay assaults, organizers were only able to hold a peaceful Pride rally last year by employing some serious spy-novel tactics: trading cell phones so they couldn’t be traced, arriving in the city in unmarked vehicles, riding the subway all day to throw off anyone following them.
Last year’s Moscow Pride was basically a flash mob, a short unannounced march down a freeway median that was chiefly spread via word of mouth and only lasted a few minutes.
It was a peaceful event, but total secrecy isn’t exactly conducive to a well-attended party. So this year, Pride applied for a permit well in advance.
And now they’ve been denied.
That’s a risky move by the city of Moscow. Last year, a European Union court ruled that the country had violated Pride’s civil rights by denying permits in the past, and that they were required to issue permits henceforth.
What’s next? Well, they’ll hold the rally in Moscow whether they have a permit or not, but it looks like we might be in for another year of attacks and harassment.
In the mean time, organizers are asking that you call the Russian embassy in Washington to protest the government’s banning of Moscow Pride. Their numbers are (202) 338-3263 or (202) 232-5988. If you do call, let us know what they say!
Lets all call, and I do hope Adam draws attention to the plight of the gay community in Moscow.
I do not want him to take part in the march.
I want good security at the concert.
I want the fans to enjoy and revel in the life a happy out gay man can live.
I am not going to tempt fate by pointing out how fucking nuts and gay hating these skin heads are. But they just have to ensure Adams safety.

You have Kobe Bryant shouting out the word Faggot…then again with the jets guy and David Tyree speaking out against Gay Marriage…and of course you have Tracey Morgan being downright hateful against gays and there are no ramifications. Even the sight of Weiner’s Weiner has brought down a Congressman. Are people that afraid of Gays in this day and age? Well Marc Freden, too, has been given pause with the issue. As a gay man, even he feels the need to apologize for the blatant use of the word “Faggot” in his new book “REALLY!?!” Now Freden using the “F” word should get a tacit pass…much like black people using the “N” word to describe themselves. His harmless use of the word…(And you must read the book to understand) has lead him to a video mea culpa on YouTube “Marc Freden Must Apologize to the Gay Community”. Furthermore, Freden has pledged that if Kobe Bryant can be fined $50,000 then he too should pay a price. A percentage of every book sold as a result of his apology will go to the Trevor Project – a gay hotline for distressed teens looking for a voice of calm and understanding. It is the least he can do. Who will join Freden in this cause?

I guess I should already have been, for quite a while now, but now, watching these clips…
I still stand by my opinion that if Adam raises awareness on gay rights that would be fabulous, but now that I see what kind of horrific possibilities the violent sh*tbrain bigots have in store for us, I’m really really scared. Too true, so sadly true almost every country in the world has its fair share of disgusting ignorant hate… But in this case, it’s the f*cking government&police that’s doing some of the biggest damage. Which is a very scary difference.
I hope Adam stays safe in Russia. I hope he pulls off another lovable, wonderful concert, like we all know he always does. I hope he does what he chooses to do from his heart. And I hope, really truly hope, he comes back soon to our nervously waiting arms.
Well said @scearly. Why are people pretending that there are only problems for gays in Russia. They knew Adam was gay, yet they invited him there to perform. He has been all over Russian radio and MTV Russia. He had a #10 hit with WWFM. He won an award for best international male artist there. All while knowing he is gay. Contrast that to the UK where they will not even play his music on the radio. But they played the music of superstar Willow Smith which allowed her record to go to #2. This selective outrage is not helpful to Adam or anyone else. Adam has fans in Russia who want to see him. Let him go with our love and support. He faces enough barriers as it, let’s not make it worse.

I doubt this is a russian spewing hate. And this is just one of hundreds of similar posts. Adam does not need to go to Malaysia or Russia to be in danger. Homophobia seems very strong in his own country. He is visible and confident and people that fear their “christian” values are threatened hate him with the same passion that we love him. This is frightening indeed.
I’ve done my time in Moscow. The stories I could tell. I hope he is counseled before he goes. But I think it is important for him to go and not be intimidated but to stand proud in who he is. But being American and growing up in a liberal family he may be in for a cultural shock. I know I was.
OK,now I’m nervous about Adam’s safety ! I hope security is tight,some people hate with a passion that’s extremely frightening.
